Prosecutor Anna Adamiak and prosecutor Krzysztof Karsznicki are the new nominees of Adam Bodnar to the National Prosecutor’s Office. About the prosecutorial duo was loud even under the previous government of Donald Tusk. In 2011 they helped Belarusian authorities to arrest opposition leader Ales Bialiatski. The activist who has won the Nobel Peace Prize since 2022 is in prison today.
“The prosecutor general took the first step towards restoring dignity to the prosecutors of the former prosecutor general’s Office, who in 2016 were demoted by Zbigniew Ziobro to the lowest level. At that time a total of 124 prosecutors were demoted”, – the Ministry of Justice said.
Among those appointed to the National Prosecutor’s office are Anna Adamiak – prosecutor of the regional prosecutor’s office in Warsaw and Krzysztof Karsznicki – prosecutor of the regional prosecutor’s office in Łódź.
These two were mentioned in 2011. It was then that their actions indirectly opened the way for the Belarusian services to arrest the Belarusian oppositionist Ales Bialiatski into custody.
Recall that in June 2011 the Polish side provided legal assistance to Belarus, as a result of which Bialiatski was arrested. The Polish prosecutor’s office then provided Belarus with data on the flows in Bialiatski’s account, where money was collected for opposition activities.
Prosecutor Anna Adamiak was involved in the scandal. It was she, as the case officer, who considered the request of the Belarusian side at that time and – despite the negative opinion of the prosecutor’s office in Warsaw-directed it to implementation. Prosecutor Adamiak also ignored the recommendation of the then Prosecutor General Andrzej Seremet, according to which the conclusions from Belarus should be treated with extreme caution, as they may be a trap set for local opponents.
