The Association of Belarusian Business Abroad (ABBA) in solidarity with Belsat has sent an official letter to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk calling on him to preserve the main independent TV channel for Belarusians.
“In modern conditions, when freedom of speech is suppressed in Belarus and independent journalists and organizations are persecuted, Belsat remains an important tool for spreading truthful information and supporting civil society. The disappearance of the channel would mean losses for the entire democratic movement, as noted in the letter to the Polish Prime Minister,” the appeal says.
In early July, it became known that Belsat was awaiting a reform that would lead to the elimination of the channel’s independence. Since the first of August, the Belsat website has stopped working.
