Representatives of more than a hundred gminas of Podlasie met at the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Bialystok to share wafers. The meeting was attended by wojts, burmasters, elders and presidents of cities, members of parliament and ordinary people, as well as clergy.
The important role of local government was emphasized by the co-organizer of the meeting, President of Bialystok Tadeusz Truskolaski. “Our self-government has been in existence for about 30 years. And this is the greatest success of democratic changes. Why? Because the presidents, or Burmasters, are elected by the residents. The residents themselves determine whether you are a good host or not, whether you will be elected or not,” he said.
“Today, the voivodeship authorities meet, say a kind word to themselves, express wishes for the New Year, apologize for the sins they committed in the past year, wish peace, endurance, and funds. And we hope that the New Year will be the best,” said Mikolaj Janowski, chairman of the Commission for the Development of the Economy and Promotion of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, radny of Voivodeship sejmik.
During the meeting of the Podlaskie municipality in Bialystok, the Choir of the Bialystok University and the Triad Ensemble, which operates at the Podlaskie Institute of Culture, performed in front of the audience. Such a Christmas meeting of the local government was organized for the first time.
