The Grodna authorities refused to hang a sign on the house where the national writer Vasil Bykau lived.

A petition with a corresponding request to officials appeared on the petitions website. Its authors asked to install a memorial plaque on Vialikaya Troitskaya Street, 28. It was in this house that Vasil Bykau lived since 1958, who was awarded a number of state awards in Soviet times.

The authors of the petition stressed that the absence of a sign prevents the proper celebration of his contribution to Belarusian and world literature. However, the response of the officials was negative. They stated that the city does not have funding for the creation of “monumental art objects”, as well as additional sources of funding.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vasil Bykau.
