In Bialystok, at a meeting of the city council, the issue of replacing the coat of arms of the city was discussed, which, according to the heraldic commission, violates Polish historical heraldic traditions.
The coat of arms, according to experts, recalls the period of the Russian occupation and does not reflect the Polish national identity.
The coat of arms of Bialystok with an Eagle and a Pagon was approved in 1996. There was a proposal to return to the coat of arms of the time of John Clemens Branicki, which does not raise objections from experts. The initiative to change the coat of arms of Bialystok has already been undertaken in 2012 and 2018. But then the city council did not support this idea.
