The new bishop of the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus was previously detained by Lukashenka’s security forces

Since the appointment of the Pope, a priest from Lida, Priest Andrei Znoska, rector of the Church of God’s Mercy, has become the new bishop for Belarus.

Exactly one year ago, on July 19, 2023, the priest was detained by the Lukashenka’s security forces.

Andrey Znoska was born on June 20, 1980 in Biarozauka (Grodna region). He received his priestly ordination on May 28, 2005 with the incorporation in the Grodna diocese. He served at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Grodna and at the Parish of God’s Mercy in Lida.

Znoska is a consultant to the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Belarus on legal issues and canon law, he participated in the Belarusian translation of the Code of Canon Law.

The Apostolic Nunciature in the Republic of Belarus reported that Priest Andrei Znoska was appointed auxiliary bishop of the Pinsk diocese.
