Dozens of people took part in the celebration of the anniversary of the Hajnowka Belarusian Lyceum. Celebrations dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the institution were held in the school building.
The celebration was attended by graduates and students of the school, as well as representatives of Belarusian institutes of culture, politics and clergy. The lyceum will exist, said long-term director and mentor Eugeniusz Saczko.
“It is with great pleasure that I come to school, as there is a wonderful atmosphere here in the future, which has always been here. There are wonderful teachers who have always been here. Therefore, I think that the Belarusian lyceum was, is and will exist. In what form is unknown, but it will be. Either more or less will study the Belarusian language, but there will certainly be a group that will support this root of the lyceum.
The lyceum is 75 years old, 4 of them are also mine years. My contribution to the history of this school and my personal experience. But today the most beautiful thing is how young people perform. The most important thing for the school is that there are young people who want to learn the Belarusian language, who want to take part in various events. It’s just a great happiness for me that what teachers used to do is still being done,” he said.
Many well-known Belarusians of Podlasie gathered at the congress, representatives of the Joint Transitional Cabinet and the head of the National Anti-Crisis Management Pavel Latushka arrived as guests.
He and representative of Joint Transitional Cabinet of Alina Koushyk presented Igor Lukaszuk, director of the Belarusian Lyceum in Hajnowka, with the medal “Honor and dignity” for his contribution to the preservation and popularization of the Belarusian language. Books by modern Belarusian authors were transferred to the lyceum library.
