There have been 5% more legally working foreigners in Poland over the past year. That is, for the period from September 2023 to this September.
And although there are more and more foreigners who come to Poland and get a legal job, their number in Podlaskie voivodeship has been gradually decreasing for more than a year. Already in the second half of last year, a sharp decrease in the number of legally working foreigners began, so this year the trend continues.
In September 2024, 1,178 thousand people were insured under a foreign passport in the country, 27.8 thousand people in Podlaskie voivodeship (2.3% of all foreigners in Poland).
In Podlaskie voivodeship, we observe an ever smaller number of working citizens from other countries. At the end of September 2023, there were 30.4 thousand legally employed foreigners in our region. During the year, almost 2.6 thousand people left Podlasie, according to Katarzyna Krupicka, regional spokeswoman for the Social Insurance Department (ZUS) in Podlasie voivodeship.
The largest group in the region consists of citizens of Belarus. Now there are 13.9 thousand of them. Over the past 12 months (from September 2023 to September 2024), their number has decreased by 1.3 people.
However, the decrease in the number of Belarusians in Podlasie does not affect the national statistics of Belarusians in Poland. Since the end of September 2023, there have been almost 8.3 thousand more citizens of Belarus in the country (30.9.2023 — 126.3 thousand people)., 30.9.2024 – 134.6 thousand).
The second, very large national group is Ukrainians. Now in the Podlaskie voivodeship, 8 thousand citizens from Ukraine are legally working and allocating a fold to ZUS. “Compared to September last year, with the current situation, the number of these foreigners (Ukrainians) in our region has also decreased by 910 people,” says a spokesman for ZUS in Podlasie. In Podlaskie voivodeship, the number of insured persons from countries such as Indonesia (by 255 people), Kyrgyzstan (by 215 people) and Nepal (by 94 people) also decreased.
