On April 21, joint Lithuanian-Polish tactical field exercises began with the participation of the Brave Griffin 24/II aviation unit.

Allies from the United States and Portugal are also taking part in these exercises.

The exercises will be held on the territory of the Druskininkai city government and the Alytus, Lazdi, and Varensky districts.

According to the army, during the exercises, 1.5 thousand soldiers of the Žemaitija Infantry Brigade named after Lithuanian Grand Hetman Jan Chodkiewicz and the allies, as well as 200 units of military equipment, will test defense scenarios in the so-called Suwalki corridor in accordance with the bilateral “Orsha Plan” of Lithuania and Poland.

This plan was prepared by the commanders of the Lithuanian and Polish armies in 2022, most of it is classified.

According to the army, the main purpose of the exercises is to practice the skills of the brigade headquarters and subordinate units to plan and carry out defensive military operations in cooperation with NATO allies.

The Lithuanian Volunteer Defense Forces, Military Police, Military Medical Service, Air Force, Air Defense, and engineering battalions will also take part in the exercises.

The Suwalki Corridor is a 100-kilometer-wide section of the border between Lithuania and Poland, bordering the Kaliningrad Region from the west and Belarus from the east.

The maneuvers will last until April 26.
