Over three and a half years more than 10,000 Belarusians have applied for international protection in Poland

From August 9, 2020 to February 29, 2024, 10,161 Belarusian citizens applied for international protection in Poland. More often only Ukrainians ask for refugee status, but in their country, we recall, there is a full-scale war.

These data are contained in the report of the Office for Foreigners of Poland.

In general Belarusians are the second largest group of foreigners in the country, the report also says. As of February 29, 124,438 citizens of our country had a document granting the right to stay. And this is more than 4 times what it was in August 2020.

The majority of Belarusians in Poland — more than 74 thousand – live in the country on the basis of a temporary residence permit.

The majority of Belarusians in Poland live in the Masovian Voivodeship (41,800) and Podlaskie Voivodeship (14,000). In addition, there are quite a large number of citizens in Pomeranian (10,000), Greater Poland (9,000), Lower Silesian and Lesser Poland (almost 9,000) voivodeships. These are mostly people aged 18-34 years old. Among them 58% are men and 42% are women.
