The persecution of the already closed Union of Poles of Belarus continues in Belarus

The KGB recognized the site as an “extremist formation” Znadniemna.pl. The decision was made on March 26 and since April it has been added to the register.

“A group of citizens carries out extremist activities through an Internet site,” the creators of the list note. Andrzej Pisalnik and Inna Todrik-Pisalnik are mentioned in connection with the site.

The site recognized as an “extremist formation” is another act of persecution of Belarusian Poles who are disloyal to the Lukashenka regime. Earlier the authorities conducted searches in the estates and apartments of the organization’s members, forced some of the participants in the politically motivated case to leave Belarus. The leader of the Union of Poles, journalist Andrzej Poczobut, who received a sentence of 8 years in a penal colony, continues to be behind bars.

The chairman of the Union of Poles of Belarus, Andżelika Borys, was also under house arrest. She, as well as Poczobut and other figures of the Union of Poles of Belarus, were arrested in March 2021 in the so-called “Case of Poles”. Poczobut and Borys refused to be released in exchange for agreeing to leave their homeland. In March 2022, Borys was transferred from the pre-trial detention center in Zhodzina under house arrest. On April 4, 2023, it became known about the release of Andżelika Borys from house arrest. The case against her was later closed.

Anna Paniszewa, Irena Bernacka and Maria Tiszkowska were released from arrest and expelled from Belarus in June 2021 at the request of former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
