Belaruskali wants to get one billion euros from Lithuania through the court

The arbitration proceeding has been formed in Lithuania based on the process initiated by Belaruskali.

Belaruskali continues legal proceedings over losses related, in the opinion of the company’s representatives, to the violation by the Government of Lithuania of the investment protection agreement. The arbitration process has been launched in Lithuania due to a complaint from a Belarusian company.

Belaruskali demands that Lithuania pay about one billion euros (this is excluding interest and court payments) as compensation for losses. The Belarusian company suffered these losses after the Lithuanian Railway broke the agreement on the transit of fertilizers through Lithuania in February 2022, after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, including the Belarusian territory. In response, Minsk banned the transit of petroleum products, chemical and mineral fertilizers through its territory when they were loaded at stations of the Lithuanian Railway. Both countries have suffered billions of dollars in losses.
