No news from the convicted oppositionist Maryia Kalesnikava for a year

The relatives of the Belarusian oppositionist Maryia Kalesnikava have not known anything about her for exactly a year. They received the last letter from Maryia on February 15, 2023.

“I can only pray that my daughter is alive, because the administration of the prison in Gomel does not allow visits and does not respond to my letters and requests,” Maryia’s father Aliaxander Kalesnikau told the Associated Press.

Maryia Kalesnikava was sentenced in September 2021 to 11 years in prison.

Many other well-known political prisoners also found themselves in the information blockade. For more than a year, there has been no information about Mikalai Statkevich, who was sentenced to 14 years. Since April, there has been no reliable information about Viktar Babaryka, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison. There is practically no news from Ales Bialiatski, Maxim Znak, Dzmitry Dashkevich and many other political prisoners.
