The 95th anniversary of the birth of historian Jerzy Turonek has been celebrated in Warsaw

The 95th anniversary of the birth of Jerzy Turonek, a historian and figure of the Belarusian minority in post-war Poland, has been celebrated in Warsaw. He also was known as the founder of a separate direction in the Belarusian historical school.

“The event was of great importance for the participants,” historian Alena Glagouskaya and the host of the event, Doctor of Sciences, Professor of the University of Warsaw Yuri Grybouski are convinced.

“First of all, these are bright memories, memories of an optimistic person, of a person who was critical of reality, of history, says Grybousky. – If Mr. Turonek had lived, he would have celebrated 95 years. I wanted to invite people who knew him, witnesses of his era, those people with whom he collaborated, whom he helped, who owed him a lot, including relatives.”

The event took place at the Witryna Domu Wschodniego venue. Among the guests of the event was Jerzy’s widow Zinaida.
